Week 4 challenge

NO DISTRACTIONS

This week you must follow one simple rule.  EVERY BITE OF FOOD YOU EAT MUST BE FROM A BOWL OR PLATE WITH NO DISTRACTIONS.  This rule has two parts:

1.  Food must be eaten from a bowl or plate -- You must serve food, including snacks, onto your bowl or plate so that you can see all the food you plan to eat before taking a bite of it.  You may not eat from a storage container, serving bowl, cooking pan, bag, box, can, someone else's plate, directly from the fridge/cupboard/countertop/table, etc.

2.  No distractions while eating -- Sit down and just enjoy your food.  You must not eat while doing something else such as talking on the phone, watching a show, sitting at your computer, reading a book, fixing a meal, driving a vehicle, standing up, feeding a baby, cleaning up, studying, etc.

I hope it's obvious that this week we are avoiding the extra calories and poor food choices that result from eating without thinking.  Each day this week that you make it through the whole day without breaking the rule, you get 5 points for 30 possible bonus points (you get one free day).

Answer this question for your journal entry: What really makes you happy?

The question is worth 5 points so when you add the 30 points from no distractions and the 5 points from the journal entry that is a total of 35 points.

  2. Luckily this doesn't start till monday, but it's gonna be a tough one for me. We always eat in front of the tv.

One question ... When I eat my weight watchers meal for lunch do I have to put it on a plate? I know I'm eating all of what little food is in the package ... ;-)

  3. Oh my! This is going to be hard! Most every day I stand with my plate or sit at the table eating breakfast and lunch then have to move my plate to go take care of whichever guy needs the assistance. Then I pick it back up and continue after it's cold and not near as good as when I started. (I usually end up throwing it away) I may not eat at all this week! While on duty I am always distracted. I will fail this challenge. Sorry!

  4. Cindy, personally I wouldn't worry about your weight watchers meal. It is like my yogart, I'm not going to take it out of the container. It is pre-measured and I just eat one carton. Matt takes his food to work in a small storage container which we fix the night before. He can't really take it out and set it on a plate. So, it seems that this is a good challenge for a stay at home mom like myself but not so great for the working person. You have to eat at work and there will be distractions.

  5. I knew this would be hard for a lot of you. I will probably change it a bit and add a journal entry...I'm just not home to determine what it will be right now. To answer some of your questions...Cindy, the dinner is on a plate in my opinion for your lunch at work. And Matt...the container that your lunch is in is considered a plate or bowl. Those both work. I think that it might be just as hard for mom's who are distracted by their kids. Just do the best you can. This is mostly just for you to pay attention to how much you might eat out of an open container (like chips). For now we will change it to 6 days and I will add a 5 points journal entry on Wednesday when I get home. And talking about journal entries...don't forget this week's :)

  6. The main part that will be difficult for me is that I eat at my desk at work. I used to go downstairs to the Atrium to eat, but now that Sam Vigil isn't there to eat with, I just sit at my desk. So, does it count if I eat at my desk, but I don't look at my computer? It goes black after 5 minutes, so I will just leave it alone until I am done eating.

  7. You can sit at your desk and eat...just not use the computer or have any distractions. Of course, don't be rude if someone talks to you though. Just use common sense.

  8. I know you said it might be just as hard as mom's who get distracted by their kids. Well, I've had 4 AND ran a home daycare and this is nothing like being distracted by your kids. I know everyone has a mental picture of what I go through every day, but it's really not like anything anyone has ever experienced. I wouldn't believe it if I wasn't living it. I never get a meal that I can sit and eat the whole thing, so I've already blown the challenge by the time I get home. But, I have eaten 2 dinners at the table this week (at home). I didn't put my feet up while eating either. So, I guess I'll just get a zero on this challenge. Sorry team! Maybe next one will be a weee bit easier for me!

  9. Krista, you will get at least 10 points if you write in your journal because one day is free. I haven't had a day where I got my bonus points until today. I know this bonus challenge is hardest for you and I can't imagine what you are living through but I admire you for what you do. Just do the best you can and know that you aren't the only one blowing this bonus challenge. Love you :)
