Week 1 challenge

Week 1 challenge

WELCOME to your 1st weekly challenge!! Oh, don't be scared. Here's what you'll need to do in order to earn your 35 bonus points this week.

1. DETERMINE A GOAL (10 pts): What is your personal short-term goal for this competition? Is it to lose a certain amount of pounds, run a race, get perfect points, drop a pants size, maintain your healthy weight, be able to do 100 push ups? Whatever it is you choose, make sure it's realistic AND measurable.

2. DECIDE ON A REWARD (10 pts): Here's your chance to be a winner even if your team doesn't win the overall challenge. If you dedicate yourself to your goals YOU will win. It need not be costly, but does need to be for YOU and IT CANNOT BE FOOD! Why? I've found in the past that I (and others) have often used various foods/dinners to reward ourselves in the name of "deserving". In reality, we DESERVE to feel good about our accomplishments and HEALTH! So let's support this new life with a reward we don't need to feel guilty about. (examples: pedicure, new jeans, vacation, concert tickets, 1 day to call your own, the possibilities are endless)

3. GET READY (10 pts): Think of at least one thing you can do to successfully live a healthier lifestyle: throw away your stash of junk food, stock the kitchen with healthy snacks, put the treadmill where you can use it, dig out your exercise videos, get some shoes that support your feet, schedule a time with your exercise buddy or babysitter, etc. Then, do it!

4. REPORT TO A TEAMMATE (5 pts): Tell at least one of your teammates your goal, reward and the healthy preparation you made.

On the surface this challenge appears simple, but I think it's important for you to take the time to really think about what you want to accomplish during the next 8 weeks and how you're going to do it.

Oh! And yes, you will find that most of the Lifetime Wellness Challenge will be dependent on the honor system. And yes, people could "fudge" their numbers and justify this or that, but in the end is their integrity worth it? And keep in mind that they will not just be liars (which is bad) but will find themselves "Big FAT Liars" (that's a double whammy). Bad...very bad.

There is one more thing I suggest you do this week. TAKE A BEFORE PICTURE!! It will be really fun to see the progress you make as you go. You'll be glad you did. Heck, take that picture and keep it in a place that you will see often to remind you where you've been and what you are working for.

Good luck this week and get to know your team! They will be your lifeline for the next 8 weeks.

  1. Kim-I did the challenge last week, but didn't report it to you. Anyway, I did go over it with Kerry last week on Monday. Does it make a difference?

  2. I added those extra 35 points to your team totals but it did not make the results different. Make sure to fill out the spreadsheet completely including the bonus line on the bottom but then just email me your numbers not the entire sheet. I'm glad to hear that you did that because I think it is important :)

  3. I wasn't even totally aware of the first week challenge until Janna called and told me about it. She's a good motivator for me. I really like keeping in contact with everyone this way. (Meaning the wellness challenge.)
